hi everyone welcome to the recorded version of the parent orientation meet and greet here are some Norms that we are going to be expecting to have even for students when meeting and the Google meet classroom Norms our meetings will start on time so please be proud please mute your mic upon entering the Google needs classroom that way we can limit any background noise that might come please try to limit distractions use the chat section to type in questions comments or concerns use the communication symbols such as your pointer finger or hand ways to alert me when you want to speak unless please practice some patient we are all this is new for all of us and we know that technology doesn't exactly do everything we wanted to do when we wanted to do it so let's practice and patience and give each other some gray here's a quick mental check in just for you to think and reflect on how are you feeling about school starting remotely on next Tuesday are you feeling great and ready are you nervous and anxious about it or are you overwhelmed in concern please know that whatever you're feeling about starting remote learning those feelings are very valid in fact I felt one or more of the the emotions during the course of getting ready for remote learning so I completely understand but I just want you to know that I am on your team we are a team together and we will get through this and make this the most successful year possible for our so I just want to start with a little bit about me my name is Carmelita Brown I have been teaching for six years and in those six years I've been teaching at Joseph Lovett Elementary I absolutely love why do I love my kids I'm really sad that I won't be able to meet them in person at the beginning of the school year this year but I am excited to meet them on Tuesday for virtual learning I have a 2 year old 5 lb Yorkie who I love and adore her name is Nala and hopefully sometime this year if School opens back up the kids will be able to meet her and enjoy her as well what's new this year one of the biggest changes for virtual learning this year is attendance and how it is been being taken this time around versus what happened in the spring when we went online so there are two that you will hear a lot and see a lot and that is a synchronous asynchronous and synchronous asynchronous learning refers to learning that happens not screen is green face to face with the teacher but more independently and synchronous refers to face-to-face green the screen teaching lesson interacting with the teacher and you and this year students are required to have a certain amount of asynchronous in okinus learning and so this is important for us to know this is what is different from what has happened in the spring students are required to have that face-to-face live interaction an instruction with the teacher known as synchronous learning I'm in order for them to be marked present this year students must be present for the entire instructional day so the schedule that is posted on Joseph Lovett website as well as the schedule that will go over today in Arley and Haitian is what they will have to they will have to be present for that for in order to be marked for the entire day I'm students must report to class after lunch and for our class and I'm room 12-7 after lunch after the student has disengage for lunch and they come back they actually will be going into prep because right after lunch is our prep time and we'll talk a little bit more about that when we get to the prep schedule any student that joint after the attendance is submitted will be marked tardy in our attendance should be submitted completely by 10 so hopefully we get the kids up by 8:45 get them ready to learn so let's talk a little bit more about how the district use attendance as well so before in the spring students were able to be counted present if they had done work online no matter what day it was as long as they engaged some type of in some type of way for the week they were marked present for that week this will be completely different because student have to be online and engaged online every single day from Monday to Friday every single day and they have to be present for synchronous learning and that's face-to-face screen-to-screen learning live learning with the teacher every single day in order to be counted and marked present so that means it's not going to be enough for them to log into Google classroom and do work for the day they will still be marked absent if they do that they have to come to Google me live video chat session they have to be there in order to be marked present otherwise it's an absent so let's please make sure that our students are up and ready to go if not by 8:45 at least by 9 how to get rid of all technical issues that might happen during that time and just be ready for their synchronous online life instruction when it is time so you can take a second and look at some of the guidelines that the district implemented for attendance taking procedures this year okay moving forward if you have any questions about the attendance or what the district views as students being present online for virtual learning please reach out to me via email or it send me a message on remind and I'll try and answer that question to the best of my ability thank you so much will moving forward so what does the schedule look like for the 4th 5th pod we have schedule from 8:45 all the way to 3:45 which is the end of the school day in students are to be actively engaged during the entire time so from 8:45 to 9 we have the morning meeting so it during this time many of the kids will be floating in messing around technology trying to get in make sure that everything is okay and up and running and we have chats and we have breakfast whatever morning procedures that will be having during that time and then from 9 to 10 we have synchronous read so that's face-to-face green screen live action learning with the students and teachers from 9 to 10 now from 10 to 11 that's when we have our asynchronous learning for the reading block 4 students are in small groups are either meeting with me or they're doing independent work without the teacher in front of them from 11 to 11:15 we have stretch break brain break we might we might do whatever fun activities the kids might want to do during that time for 15 minutes stretch break they can disengage for a few minutes and go to the washroom and come back at 11:15 to 12:15 for their next synchronous math whole group lesson so from 11:15 to 12:15 they're back screen is Green live action with the teacher interaction having their math whole group lesson and then from 12:15 to 12:55 they have asynchronous small group independent math small group sessions so it's the same and mirrors the reading blocks there together and then for the next hour or 45 minutes. fighting styles working independently or in small groups with the teacher via break out room in Google. Where they can disengage go have lunch at have snacks whatever they want to do get away from the computer to take a break because we all will need that that time to just get away and disengage from that and then when I come back at 1:40 they have to log into their prep class which will be also uploaded via Google Classroom mrs. separate Google Classroom from their homerooms Google classroom but their prep classes will have their own individual Google classrooms where students will have to meet there in order to be marked for attendance and the prep t-shirts will let the homeroom teachers know if the students did not attend their prep class so that we can have a talk or that we can communicate the importance of attending prep at that time and in just a few seconds or a few moments here will be gone of the Prep schedule for 207 is well from 2:40 to 3:40 we're going to have either science or social studies and depending on the day and so they will have to be there that will be synchronous learning with a group activity or an asynchronous activity from 2:40 to 3:40 for science and social studies and please note that all social social emotional learning practices will be embedded throughout the entire day or the entire instructional block where we'll be talking about things like identity Community racial Injustice more social injustice you know things that kids are experiencing a noticing and our world today so this will be embedded within all of the things that we do and our instructional block so SEL practices are still going to be embedded throughout the entire school day so here's the Prep schedule they have prep from 1:40 to 2:40 every single day so on Monday they have PE Tuesday they have Spanish Wednesday they have PE Thursday they have Spanish and Friday they have PE so they be three times a week in Spanish two times a week and we want to make sure that they make it there on time at 1:40 to 2:40 to their for their prep and again they will have a separate Google Classroom so I will not be hosted in there Google for their home run but they will be in a separate Google classroom for that specific prep. For that special PE or Spanish and just so you all are aware of the schedules will also be posted find a Joseph Levitt website so make sure you refer to that or use that as a reference if you need it what will remote learning look like what will it look like well students will get up every morning all of their wash your face brush your TV little breakfast and then they will lock to the Google Classroom when they log into the classroom there will be a Google meet link that is embedded within the classroom and wish they will click on to act what are synchronous learning instruction with the teacher so obvious through Google Classroom will be a sign and they'll be able to see it as soon as they log into the classroom to see what we're going to be working on during asynchronous learning okay so if you need any assistance with that or getting them logged in please shoot me an email because I know some kids are still aware of their login information and some kids are and so I want to go ahead reset that within this first week we want to get all of those techno technology issues out of the way so that we can go ahead and have a successful virtual experience a weekly schedule lesson plan will be posted on the website every Friday I know it says Sunday but it'll actually be posted every Friday by 1 to let you know what is happening the next week to help you prepare your student for what they're going to be learning in engaging in the next week feeling weak for your convenience and then also this really cool project that I had is a personalized workstation board with all of their login information schedules and communication tools that they can use and also like a privacy board where they can set it up and do their work in front of the board with that to limit distraction I've created a one for each student in my class and I would love it if you would come and pick it up on Tuesday or sometime during the week preferably the earlier the better so that students can just have that privacy section in their house make their own little work station in the house so that they can focus on what it is that they need to learn for the week and every single day so please come pick up the board it's my gift to them I won't be able to meet them in person so I wanted to give them something special and from the heart so please pick up the boards on Tuesday I will be at the school please give me a call if you need to or send me a message or an email telling me what time you will be picking up your Scholars board so how can you reach me for those of you who accepted my remind app invite thank you so much I have all of you uploaded into my contacts sheet thank you so much and if you haven't it's still not too late. Go ahead and accept that invite and that way you can get important update about what is happening in the classroom about what's happening in the school or for the school year it will be posted in the remind app and also please go ahead and use my email at any time at Sea Brown 153 cps.edu for any questions that you might have or just to reach out or if you need anything specific you can reach me there as well you can call me at the school I will be working from the floor I only live down the street from the school so it's probably play easier for me to just focus and be at school while I am teaching so go ahead and give me a call there at 773-534-3130 and ask for a Miss Brown Miss Carmelita Browns extension and it will send you directly to me I will be there until about 4 or 4:30 everyday sometimes 5 so just shoot me an email or just let me know if you need to have a conversation for whatever reason it's my page at elementary.org updates announcements that might come through on the website as I update it every single week with a weekly schedule let you know what is going on with your will be learning in the class so please go ahead and utilize the the Lovett Elementary website it is very informative and it will probably be your best bet in finding out any announcements about the Google classroom or anything else I will also be announcements given in the Google Classroom as well so please feel free to join your students in your child's Google classroom and you will also receive announcements on your progress in everything else if you have any questions about what has been recorded herein are recorded virtual orientation have any questions for me please reach out to me through any of these Avenues and I will do my best to get right back to you I will also be probably giving phone calls tomorrow for the holiday even though it's it's not working I just want him it's not a work day I just want to make sure that I can reach all of my parents and that I can help you make this transition as smooth as possible please reach out to me thank you so much thank you so much for watching this video and hopefully I was able to put you at ease about starting school on Tuesday my kids enjoy the rest of your weekend
